A NEW DAWN FOR YOBE SAMBO VILLAGE, CLEAN WATER BRINGS HEALTH AND HOPE
The arrival of clean water in Yobe Sambo Village, Sub-Traditional Authority Yohane Jere, Mzimba, has brought significant changes to the lives of its residents. What was once a daily struggle for access to safe water is now a story of hope.
Through a groundbreaking initiative by Ulalo, in partnership with International Project AID (IPA), the village now enjoys sustainable access to clean water.
This transformative project was made possible through the involvement of 22 high school students from "Kantonsschule Wohlen" in Switzerland, who not only helped plan the initiative but also led fundraising efforts within their school and nearby communities.
Before the borehole was installed, life in Yobe Sambo was tough. Ommie Chavula, a mother of one, remembers the hardship.
"I used to walk long distances to the Kasito River to fetch water that was not safe for drinking," she shares.
The river, often contaminated and shared with animals, was a breeding ground for waterborne diseases that plagued the community.
"Now, we have clean water right here in our village, and my child no longer gets sick. There are no more cases of Diarrhea or other illnesses. We are healthier and happier " Chavula Added
On his part, Group Village Headman Yobe Sambo agrees with Ommie Chavula, expressing gratitude for the project.
“This borehole has brought peace and progress to our village. Our people are no longer at risk from unsafe water, and we are thankful for bringing this change.” Said Yobe Sambo.
For Yombe Sambo Village, the clean water project is more than just a convenience it is a foundation for healthier lives and a brighter future.
