RUMPHI RECEIVES LIFE SAVING DONATION TO ENHANCE NEWBORN CARE
A Lifesaving Contribution to Rumphi District Hospital with essential medical equipment
It’s a remarkable enhancement to healthcare services in Malawi. Ulalo in partnership with International Project Aid (IPA) and the youth of the Cantonal School Hottingen in Zurich,Switzerland, has made a vital donation to Rumphi District Hospital.
The hospital has received a 75-litre autoclave sterilizer and three infant radiant warmers, crucial medical equipment in support of the Labour Ward, Nursery Ward, and Theatre (Surgical) Ward.
This donation is expected to benefit approximately 300 newborn babies every month, helping to ensure safer and more effective care.
Prior to this intervention, Rumphi District Hospital was operating with an insufficient number of sterilizers and faced a critical shortage of infant warmers. The scarcity was creating significant challenges in the Labour and Nursery wards, where the demand for proper neonatal care was not being met.
The new equipment will enhance sterilization processes, improve neonatal care, and ultimately strengthen the hospital's overall service delivery.
Arnod Jumbe, Director of Health and Social Services at Rumphi District Hospital, expressed deep appreciation for the support, stating:
“The warmers will really save lives for the babies, and it’s good for everyone. The sterilizer will help us ensure that surgeries are safe, and it’s the people who will benefit from this."
Staff Orientation on Equipment Use Hospital staff receive training on the proper use of the new infant warmer.
To ensure the equipment is immediately put to use, a team of specialists from Surgmed Supplies was on site to install the devices and provide staff orientation. The training focused on ensuring that the hospital's medical team is fully prepared to utilize the new equipment effectively and safely.
This donation is part of Ulalo’s broader commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and making a lasting, positive impact on local communities.
James Gondwe, Executive Director of Ulalo emphasized the organization’s commitment, saying:
"We are proud to contribute to the advancement of healthcare in our local communities. Every effort counts in creating a more resilient healthcare system. This donation is a step in the right direction towards that goal."
Ulalo continues to focus on improving health and education systems, helping institutions like Rumphi District Hospital provide better care to those in need.
